Hi Everyone,

The bad news is that the "No Sympathy Nights" at Firkins Bar in Falkirk are finished.

Once again corporate greed and a desire to make everything on this fuckin planet bland and identical has forced our gigs to stop.

This decision has been taken at senior level and not at local manager level as we've always had total support from the current Firkins team.

I have always tried to do right by the bands that we got to play, our soundguy and anyone who came to the gigs. We tried to have somewhere that put the music first and respected the bands enough to ensure they always got paid, had free beer during the interviews and somewhere to crash if necessary. We tried to look outside our own healthy scene and along with putting on local Scottish bands we managed to entice quality bands from England, Ireland etc to come here and play to what was always a good crowd. I really hope there's someone else in Falkirk who will take up from where we left off and do something similar for the right reasons.

I am genuinely sorry to the bands who we had booked for January and February and also gutted that all the bands that we had lined up to play future shows will now have nowhere in Falkirk dedicated to DIY punk and the ethics involved in it. I am truly pissed off that I cannot continue to run these nights and hope that the bands understand that I have at no time messed anyone about. I take this news personally and feel I have let people down.

The only plus side is that for 7 months we managed to bring to life, one of the few places willing to support our scene and get live music back into Firkins which had been dormant on the gig scene for too many years. It may have been a brief interlude but it proved to me from the reactions of punters to the overwhelming number of cd's from bands wanting to play, to the rapid rate we sold the compilation cd over the bar and the positive feedback from all the bands who played, that punk is truly not dead and more importantly the spirit, the genuine spirit of punk is flourishing somewhere behind the glossy mtv veneer of commercialist punk by numbers and vacuous meaningless drivel that is packaged and sold as "punk rock". We are still here in the pubs and venues throughout the uk and hopefully the real message of punk will outlive us.

Goodbye and Sorry

Stay Punk,

Tosh

Feel free to email him at the usual addy or throw up loads of abuse on the message board to make him feel welcome. A big thanx to the man for doing this, he'll get his reward in Punk Heaven when Joey, Bob Stinson and Malcolm Owen crash him the marlboros and ask him the eternal question - Just how punk were the Sex Pistols. In fact the debate over on Subterrania might still be going on so pay a visit and say hi on his guesty.

Our reputation is growing as Central Scotland's premier punk venue and word is spreading about the no nonsense DIY set up we've got going. The number of demos/CD's and requests to play is growing. All credit goes to everyone involved in making this work and for doing it for the right reasons!

Changed all the artwork for the comp CD as I wasn't happy with the way it was looking and we've had to cahnge the Ritalins track, but apart from that everything is on course for a quick release!

17/10/02

The Alpacinos look set to play the venue on February 20th which is great news cos we've been up for getting the guys through for a while. I've also been talking with Charlie Harper and his booking Agent Steve Garnett to try and get the UK Subs on when they come back from Europe in April.

Great night on the 10th folks. The Day I Snapped, Surfin Pinheads and Misled Youth show was quality. Thanx to all the bands and once again to everyone who showed up to support the DIY scene in Falkirk. The next show is on 7th November and will feature LOS DESTRUCTOS, TEMPTING KATE AND THE ANARCHIX. Don't miss this one cos it's gonna be busy!!!!

I have finalised the tracklisting for the "No Sympathy Night Vol 1" compilation CD and it has now been passed to the d-man for mastering. The artwork is done as well, I had to make a number of changes to my original plan so the page with all the logos has had to go and the contact details for the bands will be either a website addy or an e-mail addy. I am pleased with the quality of bands we've got on this and feel it's really strong all the way to the last band. The comp has 17 tracks in all and will be selling for only £2.

The Day I Snapped : Glass Eye
Turtlehead : Don't Count On It
Joe Ninety : Things Fall Down
No Escape : Chef
Bovine : Tell A Lie
Misled Youth : Who Does Pete Waterman Think He Is Anyway?
Shatterhand : Validate
The Anarchix : Pished Up Love
Cleatus : Sticky Wicket
Barefoot : Ten Past Broken
Heffer : Passing Time
The Red Eyes : Forever

Tempting Kate : Spit It Out

News from the late licence request made to Falkirk Council is that they have refused an extension until 1am. This means that all future gigs will have to finished by 12 o'clock. Obviously we are gutted bacause this meant we could have put on some four band bills. Debs did her best though, working within a system which would prefer everybody tucked up in bed by 9 o'clock and not enjoying themselves. As the Newtown Neurotics once said "Something's gonna happen, in these licensing hours"!!

Surfin Pinheads biog added to the October Gig Page

14/08/02

Forum added today so feel free to start a discussion topic. Also added cd page uploaded the poster for the October gig. One Car Pile are not gonna make it up for the gig on September 12th due to their Bass player Wes having other commitments with Consumed. I'll let everyone know their replacement as soon as possible.

Should have a Turtlehead mp3 up within next couple of Days.

I've made a banner for the site so any kind people wanting to link to us can steal it from here.

Firkins intrepid bar manager Debbie is currently in heated negotiations with the licensing board to try and obtain a late licence for the upcoming gig on 12th September which features One Car Pile Up, Turtlehead and No Escape.

Welcome to this little website all about the monthly punk gigs we call "No Sympathy Night". The intention of this site is to promote the gigs and the bands who play and to hopefully keep y'all interested enough to come along and get nice and sweaty with us ! We'll have the odd mp3 floating about on the upcoming gigs pages for you to listen to, and a few other bits and pieces when I get the hang of the web building shenanigans. Right, hope this site does justice to all the great bands who come and play and the punters who make the atmosphere in the pub something special on these nights. It makes the work in setting it up worthwhile. Thanx also to Debbie from Firkins who has made the whole thing possible. We've got something special going here - let's tell everyone else out there all about it. Stay Punk! PS any suggestions on what could be added to or improved on the site would be welcomed. Cheers, Goatboy.
